The Silver is one of the oldest breeds of rabbits, known to exist in the year 1500 or before. You can see their history in their old-style body type, which has been preserved better in the Silver than in any other breed. The special Silver coloring comes from white hairs scattered throughout the coat. In the United States, the base color of the fur may be black, brown, or fawn. A blue Silver is recognized by the British standards as well. The Silver as we know it exists only in America and in the United Kingdom. Many other countries have silvered rabbit breeds that descend from the Silver. This rabbit, known as the "Sterling Breed," is classified as a rare breed in the United States.
At the moment, Pinewind Farms is focusing on the black variety of Silvers. Here you can learn about our current Silver Bucks.
